Taking Care of Your Battery

Taking care of your vehicle’s battery may seem so simple, but too many people end up stranded because of dead batteries every winter.

There’s nothing fun about waiting in the cold to get help because your battery is having problems.

Of course, World Class Auto can help ensure your battery is working correctly this winter or replace it if needed. There are also a few low-maintenance steps you can do yourself to make sure everything is in order when it comes to your vehicle’s battery.

To get started, check your voltage with a battery tester or voltmeter. Your battery should reach 12.5 to 12.6 volts if it’s fully charged. If it’s not all the way charged but still able to turn the engine over, you may see a reading closer to 12.0 volts.

Check for corrosion around the battery terminals looking for a white powder. If you notice they need cleaning, take the time to clean the terminals. Mix a small amount of baking soda with water to neutralize the acid and then use a wire brush to clean off the acid and dirt.

If you notice any other problems with your terminals, wiring, clamps or anything else related to your battery, don’t hesitate to bring in your vehicle.

We can check everything you need checked to give you the peace of mind that your battery will be fully operational this winter. Schedule an appointment today.

For emergencies, we also recommend you carry a mini jump-starter in your vehicle. We offer several different sizes for sale in our shop. You can fully charge your battery with these powerful little jump starters. You can also learn more about the jump starters here.
